culture wins the respect of other nations. Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy grandly celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) on July 21, 2016, sharing an ancient culture passed down from generation to generation and revealing spectacular achievements accomplished by Tai Ji Men’s Shifu and dizi. The event was kicked off by multi-national music presented by “Love and Peace World Orchestra.” A powerful and joyful opening drum performance was presented in unison by a group of young Tai Ji Men members, who sent continuous waves of happy energy to the audience. Tibetan horns delivered music that evoked ancient memories. The young performers not only carried forward the culture of an ancient menpai (similar to school) but also presented it with new vitality. People who have provided encouragement and support to Tai Ji Men were invited to the joyous event, and the Taipei International Convention Center was fully packed. The event, attended by over 3000 domestic and foreign guests, was broadcast live in 14 places in Taiwan and the U.S.

Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, Zhang-men-ren of Tai Ji Men, stated in his opening remarks: “Tai Ji Men is endowed with the legacy of ancient tai ji culture having been passed down from generation to generation from shifu to dizi. The essence of this fine culture is spreading across the world thanks to the collective efforts of shifu and dizi. It is no easy task in the modern world. The path of spreading goodwill is full of adversities and ordeals. As martial arts practitioners, we take these adversities and ordeals in stride, as these tests strengthen our motivation to further advance fraternity and brotherhood. Tai Ji Men members believe that as long as every heart is filled with love and peace, the energy of kindness and wisdom will change the world for the better.”  He stressed that there are few centenarians in the world; nevertheless, the impacts of conscience, education, and culture will last hundreds or even thousands of years and change the destinies of future generations and the course of history. “For 50 years, Tai Ji Men shifu and dizi have embraced courage, faith and energy as they have promoted the awakening of conscience with a culture of love and peace. It is our desire that world citizens will work hand in hand, amplifying the positive energy within the universe to usher in a future of wellbeing for the planet and humanity,” added Dr. Hong.

present and about the universe, society, and life. They were presented in the forms of martial arts, music, dance, drama, and "play within a play," spreading countless blessings as well as boundless happy and righteous energy. Master Xuanzang and his three disciples (main characters in a classic Chinese novel titled Journey to the West) time traveled to the TICC to congratulate Tai Ji Men. Tai Ji Men young ladies formed various formations while delivering graceful and powerful sword dance. These performances embodied an ancient culture with immense energy from the heart.

Tai Ji Men is an ancient menpai of qigong, martial arts, and self-cultivation. It is a treasure trove of culture and holds the key to unlock the origin of wisdom.  Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy was founded in 1966 by Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze, Zhang-men-ren (grandmaster) of Tai Ji Men. Over the years, the Shifu and dizi have visited over 200 cities in more than 60 nations and received countless praises. They have volunteered over 2 million hours and conducted over 2,000 cultural performances worldwide, fostering people-to-people diplomacy and enabling the people of the world to experience the beauty of Chinese culture. They have been recognized as “International Ambassadors of Peace and Goodwill.” The Shifu and dizi have set various records that have not been broken.  In recent years, it has actively promoted the movement of An Era of Conscience, which has received enthusiastic responses from people in 196 nations, creating positive influences that have rippled across the planet.  In 2016, it launched the global endorsement of the “Declaration of World Citizens.” Attendees of the 66th UN DPI/NGO Conference warmly endorsed the declaration, and there have been 49 participating nations so far.

Videos featuring highlights of the Shifu and dizi’s international trips of love and peace over the past 50 years were played throughout the event.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy holds the ceremony of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love according to an ancient ritual to pray for the world.

An ancient ceremony of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love was also held to pray for world peace.  The Bell has visited every populated continent.  To date, the Bell has been rung by 270 visionary leaders from 87 countries, including 27 heads of state, 8 Nobel laureates, UN ambassadors, NGO leaders, etc.

In celebration of this historic moment, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je attended the event and presented a certificate of recognition to Tai Ji Men and said that Tai Ji Men’s Shifu and dizi had contributed time and money to promote culture and education and spread love and peace worldwide without receiving any public donations or subsidies from the government. He said that about 20 years ago when he practiced qigong at Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy in Gu-tin (one of the academies in Taipei), he, as a medical doctor, frequently received calls in the middle of his practice and was asked to go back to National Taiwan University Hospital to provide emergency care.  As a result, his practice was intermittent; however, his practice for the body and the heart had reached a certain level.  He said that his ability to maintain a high energy level today has to do with what he learned at Tai Ji Men at that time.  He wished all Tai Ji Men members health and all the best, Tai Ji Men a greater success in the next 50 years and more promotion globally, and Taiwan more visibility in the world!

Hung Hsiu-chu, chairperson of Kuomintang, presented a piece of calligraphy to Dr. Hong and said that Dr. Hong is amazing because fifty years ago he saw worsening environmental and moral degeneration and thought of promoting the spirit of “cultivating the positive energy of the universe and following the way of the true ones of the ages” as well as Chinese culture to correct the imbalance in people’s bodies, minds, and souls. She said that over the past 50 years Dr. Hong has done his best to combine martial arts, culture, self-cultivation, etc. and pass onto his dizi his kungfu, enabling them to restore physical, mental, and spiritual balance and lead a hopeful life. She added that over the years Tai Ji Men has spread love and peace worldwide, and in today’s chaotic world, there are conflicts and disasters at home and abroad.  Quoting Dr. Hong’s words that love is the origin of everything and peace is the common aspiration of all people, Chairperson Hung wished that people can show more love and concern to others and said that Taiwan is the place where Chinese culture has been beautifully preserved.

fans (the pronunciation of unfolding fans in Chinese means promoting goodness) to instill positive energy into the world. Honored guests included Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je; Ambassador Minute Alapati Taupo of Tuvalu to the R.O.C.; envoys and representatives of Russia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Mexico, Hungary, and Mongolia stationed in Taiwan; the KMT Chairperson Hung Hsiu-chu; legislators; council members; domestic and foreign scholars and experts; representatives from the fields of culture, business, media, etc. All came together for this jubilant event, regardless of political party, creed, or race.  The event was also attended by distinguished guests from the United States, Japan, the Great Britain, South Korea, etc.  Congratulatory letters were received from heads of state and other international friends of Tai Ji Men.

An Ancient Culture with Boundless Energy from the Heart

Tai Ji Men Shifu and Dizi Rejuvenate the Traditional Culture with Innovations

The theme of the celebration was “Tai Ji Culture, the Greatest Treasure of the Country, and the Glory of the World,” and a new flavor was added to Tai Ji Men’s classic performances of the past 50 years.  Through an intricate combination of martial arts, music, dance, drama, “play within a play,” they delivered a fantastic performance that exhibited the unity of the heart and qi (energy), a high level of kungfu. Without music, Tai Ji Men dizi were still able to beat the drums in perfect unison. The audience was deeply inspired by the joyful drumbeats! Tai Ji Men dizi also presented unstoppable and unpredictable martial arts formation that had amazed international martial arts judges in the past!

The four hours long program was fantastic, featuring “Love and Peace World Orchestra,” “Back to the Origin: Shifu and Dizi at a Menpai,” ‘Tai Ji Life: An Ancient Culture with New Vitality,” and “An Era of Conscience: Spreading Love to the World.”  The event also received Heavenly blessings—Celestial Dragon, Phoenixes, Auspicious Lions, and the Eight Immortals appeared to congratulate Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy. The performances transcended time and space and took the audience back to the origin. Although Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy has encountered great ordeals, it is emitting the light of wisdom and leading modern people to find the positive spiritual energy.  Almost all of the performers, including senior citizens, energetic youth, and lively children, are amateurs; they have been passing on the torch of culture in their daily lives. The Shifu and dizi have worked together to create this fabulous cultural feast combining audio-visual and spiritual wonders, allowing the audience to appreciate the glory of their own culture, feel the connection between their hearts and antiquity, and experience the joy and harmony among people in all populated continents.  In particular, under the guidance of Dr. Hong, young Tai Ji Men members worked along with the older generation behind the scenes, utilizing their talents and creativity to plan for the event. It’s wonderful to see an excellent culture being preserved and carried forward from generation to generation.

At the carnival people from all populated continents dance a variety of beautiful and energetic ethnic dances together and communicate to one another heart to heart, basking in the happy and harmonious atmosphere and feeling that the world is just like a big family. The last performance was “An Era of Conscience: Spreading Love to the World.” Tai Ji Men dizi changed themselves into angels of love. Energy Boys & Energy Girls danced to three uplifting songs: “Fly with Your Dream,” “Song of Hope,” and “Happiness is Everywhere” to encourage the audience to lead a beautiful life. As soon as the music of “We Are One World” started, the stage was transformed into a carnival where people from all populated continents came together, presenting a variety of beautiful and energetic ethnic dances and communicating to one another heart to heart.
